Fruit Art Ideas for Little Kids

Winters bring with it some of the most delicious fruits with it. Also, there are plenty of vacations for the kids. So, why not have an advantage of this situation and let our kids have some fun with a wide variety of fruits in this season.

Today, I am going to share some fruit dressing ideas that we did at home during these vacations and had a lot of fun doing them. It was an activity where we learnt about fruits, made funny shapes with them and above all had great fun eating them together.

Who says kids run away from fruits? If we let them play with it, create funny faces and let them find the fruits served in the most adorable way.

Here are a few ideas for the fruit salad decoration ideas which will have your kids gobble them in no time.

I involved my kids while doing this activity and they had great fun. If your kids are small, you can cut the fruits and let them form some funny shapes with the pieces in a plate. If you have slightly older kids, give them plastic knives and show them how to cut the fruits by giving them soft fruits like a ripe banana.

Bananas and kiwis served in the shape of a tree. Cut and peel the kiwis and banana and ask the child to make a tree like this. Kids will definitely come up with their own ideas to add on.

How about little kids made of kiwis, strawberries and bananas?

My kids had a hearty laugh to see these in their plates and I had a big smile on my face when I saw them finishing it up in no time.

What’s more? Kids can also make these cuties with fruit pieces and come up with their own innovative ideas. Like my daughter added kiwi pieces to make the green grass in this picture.

Let the little ones enjoy their fruits served like a flower. My little one added the strawberry in the centre of the flower to make it more colourful. I am sure your kids will come up with more ideas too.

How about a spaceship? Let the imagination of your kids touch the skies with this wonderful spaceship made of fruits. Let them imagine themselves to be astronauts discovering new planets and going into space in their fruit rockets.

I am sure kids will have super fun to gobble this cute kiwi monster with their forks and knives. Challenge them to be the knights and finish this monster in no time. They will have great fun with their pretend play and you will have great satisfaction to see them eating it with delight.

A flower with petals made from strawberries. Show them different ways to decorate their fruit salad and spark their imagination.

The reason I took only three fruits in this activity was very simple. I used limited ingredients to create different shapes and designs. It allows kids to think out of the box. With limited things they can create unlimited objects.

This activity not only helped kids enjoy eating and finishing fruits leading to healthy snacking  but also they had great fun in the kitchen. They had a new activity to do. They made their own salads and ate them.

We had great fun making these funny shapes with fruits. Do share with me your ideas too.

Here’s How I am Keeping The Promise Of Good Health For My Family

Milk has a very special place in our homes. Be it our morning tea, evening coffee or tall glasses for our kids. We cannot think of a day without milk. Milk is an essential part of our daily groceries.

This summer, I faced regular problems with the milk packs I had been buying regularly for years. The milk would turn sour as soon as I would heat it. The shop owners blamed it on power cuts and the lack of proper storage facility that they have. Due to power cuts, shop owners would keep lesser quantities of milk and as a result, the shop owners would run out of milk.

Then, I shifted to milk packaged in Tetra Pak cartons from the pouch variant of the same brand that I have now been using for ages. I must say, I ‘m much happier with this decision. Now, even if there are power cuts in summers with the shop owners providing the excuse of poor supply of milk, I am assured that I can keep and store milk which will stay fresh and safe, even for a long time.

Milk is packed in six layer protective Tetra Pak cartons. The milk is heated on very high temperature for a brief period which also ensures that the taste and the nutrients of the milk remain intact. The milk goes through a quick heating and cooling session, called the Ultra High Temperature process. The UHT process helps in keeping the milk safe for about six months without opening.

There are several myths around milk in Tetra Pak cartons which prevail commonly. I read about them and found answers to all of them. Milk in Tetra Pak cartons is generally perceived to contain preservatives. The truth is that this milk is heated at high temperature which helps in removing all the harmful microorganisms from the milk. The packaging is done in highly sterile conditions. Therefore, there is no need to add preservatives in milk packaged by Tetra Pak.

The second, most common myth is that this milk is not nutritious. It is a regular practice in households to boil the milk. Despite the milk being pasteurized before packaging, boiling the milk for longer duration is a regular practice. This results in a loss of nutrients, especially proteins and vitamin B group. Tetra Pak packaging helps keep the milk safe and retain its nutrients.

There are several other benefits of this food safety mark:
1.     Milk in Tetra Pak cartons has a longer shelf life. The unopened milk carton can be stored for as long as six months without refrigeration.
2.     The milk is well packed in six layers of packaging that is tamper-evident and hence eliminates chanced of adulteration.
3.     It keeps the milk safe and preserves its nutrients.
4.     There is no need to boil the milk as it has already gone through the UHT process.
5.     Tetra Pak cartons are made primarily of paperboard and can be recycled and turned into more useful products, making them environment-friendly.
6.     Milk in Tetra Pak cartons is safe to consume directly. This milk is creamier and thicker when compared to milk sourced in any other packaging.

In today’s fast paced life, I find milk packaged in Tetra Pak cartons to be a healthier and safer choice. I can be sure of providing pure and unadulterated milk to my family every day, keeping the promise of good health for my family.

Carrying a baby to enhance the physical attachment is a traditional practice in many Asian countries. The modern practice of carrying or attaching a baby with oneself with the help of a sling or any fitment is called as baby wearing. These slings and accessories aid to carry a baby is known as Baby carriers.

Any baby who has crossed the period of first three months is ready for baby wearing. However, you need to ensure the following points before starting baby wearing.

A baby should have

  • crossed three months of age
  • gained latching power to feed in baby carriers
  • a good control over his neck to fit into baby carriers

The above considerations are imperative, and once you are confident that your baby is now ready to be carried in carriers, you ought to make sure which type of carriers are suitable for you and your baby.

Safe and sound baby carriers:

We can see a range of baby carriers in the market, so choose the one which best suits your body and lifestyle.

Wraps:

Wraps are the most basic and simplest of all baby carriers. A fabric, any kind be it cotton, linen, wool, knits or woven is used to carry a baby and this traditional practice has been around for many years. Wraps ensure safety and comfort in carrying a baby irrespective of its age; ranging from infant to toddlers. Learning to tie a wrap seems to be difficult initially but it will turn out to be simple with practice.

Slings:

In slings, we have two different models which have gained popularity. One is Ring sling and the other is a pouch sling.

As the name suggest, ring slings use a metal ring to join two sides of a 2 meter fabric. These rings are adjustable and ensure right positioning of a baby. The excess fabric gives a tail like appearance which can be used to cover babies while nursing or protect against sun light.

On the other hand, pouch slings are custom-made and cannot be transferred between caregivers. Having a similar structure that of ring slings, these non-adjustable fabric are stitched or woven to suit the size of baby and caregivers.

Buckle carriers:

The most popular kind of carriers are bucklers. Adjustable buckles over shoulders and across the hip guarantee safety while carrying kids. As straps are adjustable, it can be shared between caregivers. This particular type is good for nursing a baby while carrying.

Meh Dai:

This type of baby carriers are a mix of both modern and traditional style in babywearing. Sharing similar pattern with buckle carriers, Meh Dai uses fabric for strips over both shoulders and hip area. Longer strips on the shoulders cannot be modified in size, though shorter strips over the hip can be adjusted.

Advantages of baby wearing:

The practice of baby wearing has lot of benefits and few of them are listed below:

  • It extends the parent- child relationship by providing a physical bond between baby and parents, which is essential in the early days.

  • Baby wearing helps in overcoming postpartum depression by developing an intimate physical bond. It also facilitates breastfeeding. For dads also it’s a great way to get skin on skin contact with baby.

  • It allows more body movement for babies when compared to carry cots, and babies enjoy the swaying motion you will make when moving about.
  • Baby wearing allows the parent to work while holding the baby, so that you can get some of those chores done! How in the world does a tiny human have so much laundry!

I started babywearing quite late, because I used to have severe back ache issues. My only regret is that I should have started sooner! In case you were wondering I chose an Ergobaby baby carrier because of the safety certifications and because was flame retardants free. Since then I have discovered many new and awesome brands (and much more cheaper) on Instagram!

So do check out all the varieties and brands available in the market before finalizing one! Babywearing is a joy, which every mother should enjoy! Have you tried baby wearing? Share below!
